Cancer is a journey that we believe no one should have to walk alone.

Why gifts in Wills matter

By including a gift in your Will to the Marie Keating Foundation, you can help create a future where every person in Ireland knows the signs of cancer, feels confident to speak to their GP, and has access to free, compassionate support, without the fear of financial burden.
1 in 2 of us will receive a cancer diagnosis in our lifetime. A gift in your Will means we can be there for families when they need us most, every step.

Your questions answered

Is it really free to make a Will?
add remove

Yes. With our partner LawOnline, you can create a legally valid will online at no cost. Optional solicitor review or advice is available for a small additional fee, but the Will itself is completely free to write.

Do I need to leave a gift in my Will to the Marie Keating Foundation to use the free will writing service?
add remove

No. Our Free Will Service is available to all supporters, whether or not you choose to include a gift. But we hope you will consider it, as these gifts allow us to continue supporting families across Ireland on their cancer journey.

I have a trusted solicitor. Can I use them to leave a gift to Marie Keating Foundation?
add remove

Yes, you can use your own solicitor to draw up your Will, although it’s unlikely to be free to do so. Simply tell them you want to include a gift (residuary or cash) to Marie Keating Foundation in your Will and they will arrange it for you. Once completed, we would be grateful if you could let us know so that we can thank you but you are under no obligation to do so. If you have already written a Will and would like to include a gift, you can create a codicil with your solicitor, which simply allows you to update part of your Will.

Where will my legacy gift be spent?

Every gift helps us provide free cancer information, support services, and awareness campaigns for families across Ireland. Your legacy will ensure no one has to face cancer alone.

At the Marie Keating Foundation, legacy gifts (also known as 'gifts in Will' or 'bequests') mean we can plan for the future and continue delivering vital services, including our:

If you would like your gift to support a particular area of our work, we will do our best to honour your wishes. Otherwise, your gift will go where it is needed most to help cancer patients and their families.
If I leave a gift to Marie Keating Foundation in my Will, do I need to let you know?
add remove

Unless you tell us, we won’t know you have left a gift until the time comes for your Will to be read. It is always lovely to hear from supporters so we can thank you for your gift and stay in touch, but that is up to you. There is a tick box option in the will to so that we can take note of all bequests made - but people are identified from doing so.

Are legacy gifts to the Marie Keating Foundation tax-free?
add remove

Yes, legacy gifts left in your Will are tax-free and can help reduce the tax payable on your estate.

What if I change my mind?
add remove

That’s no problem. A gift in your will is not binding while you are alive. You can update your will at any time if your circumstances or wishes change.
