Dearbhaile O'Hare
Dearbhaile is a breast cancer thriver, author, and exercise professional who firmly believes that movement is medicine and humour belongs in serious conversations. After her breast cancer diagnosis, Dearbhaile O’Hare discovered the power of movement in recovery and survivorship. Having experienced first hand how empowering the Marie Keating Foundations Survive and Thrive course was, she became a patient ambassador to help raise awareness. Dearbhaile doesn’t shy from on challenges to raise awareness, support others affected by cancer, and show that strength after cancer is about reclaiming confidence, joy and life itself.
Joy Sta Maria
Two months after her wedding, oncology nurse Joy Sta Maria was diagnosed with breast cancer - suddenly experiencing cancer from the other side of the bed. Through chemotherapy, surgery and survivorship, Joy learned that healing isn’t about becoming the person you once were, but finding strength in who you are today.
Joy is taking on 100km in 30 Days to support others facing cancer and to help bring comfort, understanding and hope to every patient journey.
Tracey Kelly
On the 1st of May 2024, Tracey was diagnosed with Stage 3 Grade 3 Breast Cancer.
Her life changed in ways she could have never imagined. In the beginning there was fear and uncertainty, but she found strength I didn't know I had. After a physically and emotionally harrowing journey through treatment Tracey Kelly found support, understanding and hope through the Marie Keating Foundation’s Survive and Thrive programme. Now, with her daughter Charlie Jane by her side, she’s taking on 100km in 30 Days to give back and help support others navigating life during and after cancer.
Brendan Donlon
When Brendan Donlon was diagnosed with Stage 3 bowel cancer at 48, he had experienced very few warning signs before emergency surgery saved his life. Since then, he has dedicated himself to raising awareness of bowel cancer symptoms and the importance of screening and early detection.
Through 100km in 30 Days, Brendan is helping support vital cancer awareness and support services for people and families across Ireland.
Cynthia Cosme Cravo
Cynthia Cosme Cravo believes life is for living - even in the face of metastatic breast cancer. Originally from Brazil, Cynthia’s journey through cancer, fertility struggles and survivorship has shaped her into a passionate advocate for awareness, positivity and patient support. Supported every step of the way by her husband Fabio, Cynthia now uses her voice to help demystify cancer, encourage others to seek support, and remind people to celebrate life, love and every moment that matters. She is a valued member of the Marie Keating Foundation Positive Living Community.
Lisa McElwaine
John Foley
John Foley's cancer journey began when routine PSA testing led to a diagnosis of aggressive prostate cancer. Following surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, John has faced each stage of treatment with resilience and determination, including a recent recurrence.
Throughout his experience, peer support groups has played a vital role in helping him navigate the challenges of cancer and its side effects. Today, John is passionate about raising awareness of prostate cancer, encouraging others to seek support, and making the most of every opportunity to enjoy life with family and friends.
Lucy Harrington
Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020, Lucy underwent surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy before completing treatment later that year. During her recovery, she joined the Marie Keating Foundation's Survive & Thrive programme and took part in cancer exercise research through NUI Galway, which helped her regain her physical and emotional wellbeing.
Inspired by the benefits of exercise during recovery, Lucy retrained as a Personal Trainer and Fitness Instructor, later specialising in cancer rehabilitation. Today, she runs community fitness classes and supports people affected by cancer to rebuild strength and confidence. Lucy is proud to support the Marie Keating Foundation and hopes to encourage others to take on the 100km in 30 Days challenge.
